Periodontal disease comprises a group of inflammatory pathologies that affects the tooth supporting tissues. It is caused by the dental plaque, a bacterial biofilm, which in susceptible patients causes an inflammatory response that results in the destruction of the supporting tissues of the teeth. The result of periodontal disease is the loss of attachment and the formation of periodontal pocket.
Gingivitis is a reversible inflammatory response of the gum, that despite it resolves by removing the bacterial plaque, it can lead to considerable inflammation resulting in swelling and redness of the gum, bleeding with tooth brushing, blood in saliva, and halitosis.

The treatment of gingivitis is of paramount importance to prevent periodontitis.
Periodontitis is an irreversible condition in the sense that tooth supporting tissues are progressively destructed as a consequence of the dental-plaque induced inflammation.
In the treatment of gingivitis and periodontitis, we aimed at removing the bacterial plaque and calculus (mineralized /calcified plaque), which it is adhered to the tooth surface, with an ultrasound and special instruments. This, of course, has to be accompanied with a strict infection control on behalf of the patient, by using the right manual or electric brush and also interdental brushes at every single site of the gum/tooth surface.
In advanced cases of periodontitis, we may have to perform a microsurgical intervention so that we separate the gum to clean the root surface more deeply. In some specific cases, we may be able to regenerate the lost tissues.
We are a highly specialized periodontal clinic with the ultimate goal of saving your teeth. If you cannot find a way to resolve the gum inflammation or stop the loss of tooth supporting tissues, contact us for an appointment.

Our main objective is to preserve the dentition of our patients. Nonetheless, there are situations where this is not possible and a damaged tooth may need to be extracted as in the case of extensive caries, severe periodontal disease and certain accidents.
Dental Implantology is a specialty in dentistry that aims at replacing damaged or missing teeth. A dental implant is a screw-like post that is inserted into the jawbone and loaded with artificial teeth in the form of a crown, a bridge, a partial or a full denture. The main goal is to achieve the same functionally and esthetics as natural teeth.

Dental implants not only replace missing teeth but they can contribute to provide stability to a loose removable denture. This will eliminate the need to apply denture adhesives and will prevent ulcers or sores resulting from friction of the denture against soft tissues.
Placement of dental implantes is always preceded by a comprehensive examination and planning. It is mandatory to first achieve oral and dental health (that is gum health, absence of caries and high level of self-performed plaque control).
Once a diagnosis is established, the first phase of implant treatmentis the surgical phase (first stage). This is usually performed with the use of local anaesthesia and without the need to hospitalize the patient. Once healed, a second restorative phase is followed by fabricating a fixed or removable dental prosthesis.
The ultimate goal of dental implant rehabilitation is to restore the patient´s dentition to its original aesthetic and functional state prior to the loss of their natural teeth.
